Climate Change & Militarism

One of the most important intersectional issues of our time is the relationship between the climate crisis and militarism. More people are realizing every day that we cannot adequately address climate change without drastically downsizing the military and changing its mission.
As part of Climate Action Week, Dr. Rick Staggenborg, President of the Veterans For Peace Linus Pauling Chapter, will be giving a 20 minute Zoom presentation on these issues followed by Q and A. The event will take place on September 21, International Peace Day.

Peace Vigil with ORCA

For the better part of two decades, Ed Epley and friends, maintained a Peace Vigil outside the Benton County Courthouse daily from 5:00 – 6:00 pm. The consistent visual of folks advocating for life without war reminds hurried motorists for a brief moment that not everyone gets to go home to a peaceful life after a hard day at work. Most folks honk or flash a “V” finger formation as they pass by to show their agreement with ending war. Since Ed’s death in January, several community groups are making efforts to keep the peace vigil a continuing symbol that Corvallis is for peace. Our Revolution Corvallis Allies sponsors Thursdays from 5:00 – 6:00 pm each week. Please, grab your partner, your kid, your friends, or neighbor and join us in front of the Courthouse on Thursdays to demonstrate we still want to give peace a chance.
